Ten Poets earn All-SCIAC Recognition

LOS ANGELES, Calif. – The Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference released their 2012 All-SCIAC teams for men's and women's track and fieldand Whittier landed four on the women's side and six on the men's to wrap up the SCIAC Championships.

On the men's side, six Poets earned All-SCIAC honors led by senior Brandon Wilcox who took home a 1st place finish in the shot put, a 2nd place finish in the discus, and a 4th place finish in the hammer.

Following him was sophomore Kevin Curbelo who finished in 3rd place in the 400m, Kimble Tillman who finished 2nd in the 100m owning the fifth fastest time in Div. III, Idean Vandi who finished with a big PR of almost 4' to place 6th in the shot put, Alex Jungsten who finished in 2nd place in the 100 hurdles with a .21 improvement in his overall time, and distance runner Joshua Ehinger who finished with a 6th place finish in the 3000m Steeplechase.

On the women's side, junior Alyssa Sialaris led the way once again for the Poets taking home 36 points for the Whittier squad during the SCIAC Championships taking home All-SCIAC recognition in all four throwing events and the SCIAC Field Athlete of the Year Honor.  She earned this honor by finishing in 1st place in the hammer and discus and second place in the shot put and javelin.

The three other women off the Poet squad who earned All-SCIAC honors included Eva Aguilar who finished 5th in the 3000m Steeplechase, Claudia Munoz who finished 6th in the shot put and Christine Verduzco who capped off the Whittier selections with a 6th place finish in the 5000m setting the school record.
