Whittier Competes at Triton Invitational, Poets finish 13th in Tournament


Whittier College finished 13th in the 14-team Triton Invitational hosted by the University of California-San Diego on September 2 and 3.  The Poets went 1-3 in the tournament.  On September 2, Whittier lost to Division I powerhouse Loyola Marymount University (20-3), but beat SCIAC rival, Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (5-3) later that day.  On September 3, the Poets lost to the University of California-Santa Cruz (8-3) and Division I Air Force (14-6).

Jake Zerbe '07 scored four goals in the tournament.  He scored the Poets' fifth goal in the win over CMS scored twice in the loss to UC-Santa Cruz and tallied one goal against Air Force.  Chris Villanueva '09 also finished the tournament with four goals.  He netted two, including the game-winning goal, against CMS and scored twice against Air Force.  Manny Sanchez '08 had three goals in the tournament, all on Day 1.  He scored twice against Loyola Marymount and once against CMS.
