Water Polo Loses at Pomona, Villanueva '09 Scores Four of Five Goals


Whittier College water polo fell to 0-2 in the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference with a 14-5 loss to Pomona-Pitzer Colleges on October 17 in Claremont, Calif. 

For the second straight conference game, the Poets got off to a slow start and fell behind early.  Pomona started the game on a 5-0 run and was up at halftime, 8-2.  The Poets continued to struggle in the third, unable to score in the quarter while giving up four goals.  Chris Villanueva '09 scored three of his four goals in the fourth quarter to make the final score 14-5.  Villanueva also had an assist.  Matt Rogers '08 was credited with the other Poets' goal and an assist.  Matt Brammer '09 made 13 saves in goal and pitched in with an assist.

The Poets host a doubleheader on October 20.  They face-off with SCIAC rival University of La Verne at 11am before taking on Fresno Pacific University in non-conference action at 1pm.
