Three Poets honored by ACWPC with All-Academic Award

WHITTIER, Calif. - The Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches announced its 2008 All-Academic Awards on Monday, March 23, and three Poets were honored with one of the three levels of the award.

Freshman Chris Hartman and senior Chris Villanueva were given the Superior honor while junior Casey Regehr garnered an Excellent award.

The three levels of the awards are Outstanding, Superior and Excellent. Student-athletes that maintain a grade point average of 3.71 to 4.00 are given the top award of Outstanding. The award of Superior is from a 3.41 to a 3.70 GPA and an Excellent is from 3.20 to 3.40.

Villanueva led the Poets in most statistical categories this past season as he finished the year with 53 goals and 32 assists. He was named an honorable-mention ACWPC all-American as he led the purple and gold in drawn ejections with 30.

Hartman completed a stellar freshman campaign as he finished second on the team with 28 drawn ejections. He also added six goals and eight assists and added 11 steals on the year.

Regehr was named a second-team all-American by the ACWPC as he made 265 saves on the year which includes 52 in man down situations. He also added 21 assists.

The purple and gold finished the season ranked No. 8 in the Division III polls.
