SCIAC places four Poets on all-conference team

LOS ANGELES, Calif. - The Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference announced its 2009 all-conference team on Monday evening and the No. 1 Poets were honored with three first-team selections and one second-team honoree.

Seniors Casey Regehr and Alex Perry joined sophomore Rilesh Desai on the first-team while junior Brandon Babot landed on the second-team.

Regehr has been as good as advertised this season as he set a new school record for saves in a single season. His 394 this year gives him a career total of 659 which ranks second all-time in Whittier history for career saves.

Five times this year Regehr has had 20 or more saves in a game which includes a season-high 22 stops against La Verne on October 4. He also has 11 steals and 24 assists on the year.

Last season Regehr was a second-team All-SCIAC selection.

Perry is tops on the team in goals with 67 and, like Regehr, earned SCIAC Male Athlete of the Week honors once throughout the season. He scored a season-high six goals against La Verne on September 5 and duplicated the feat against Claremont-M-S on November 4.

Desai leads the team in assists with 65 and ranks second on the squad in goals with 41. He earned WWPA Player of the Week honors for the week ending November 4 which saw him register a four-goal, four-assist, game against Occidental.

He handed out season-high six assists against Cal Lutheran on September 19, had a five-assist game against Santa Clara on November 8 and recorded four-assist games seven times this season.

Babot ranks fifth on the team with 28 goals, second on the team with 37 drawn ejections, third on the team with 16 steals and has 11 steals. He tallied a season-high four goals against Cal Lutheran on September 27.

Prior to this season, head coach Justin Pudwill had five student-athletes named to the All-SCIAC team. The four honorees this year is the most in his tenure.
