Whittier falls to No. 2 in latest CWPA poll
BRIDGEPORT, Pa. - The Whittier College men's water polo team dropped one spot to No. 2 in the latest Collegiate Water Polo Association poll released today after it suffered an upset loss to Claremont-M-S in the semifinals for last weekend's Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Tournament.
The Poets (19-12) finished third in the tournament with wins over Caltech and Pomona-Pitzer but the loss to the Stags cost Whittier the SCIAC title and the No. 1 ranking.
Redlands, who won the SCIAC Tournament and claimed the SCIAC title, is the new No. 1 team in the land with 98 points. Whittier has 90 points and is followed by Claremont-M-S and Johns Hopkins who are each ranked third with 86 points and Pomona-Pitzer who is No. 5 with 82 points.
The purple and gold still received a vote towards the Varsity Top 20 and will face No. 14 Air Force in the first round of the Western Water Polo Association Championships on Friday morning. JHU and Redlands are tied at No. 20 in the Varsity Top 20.
