Poets earn No. 7 seed in WWPA Championships

LOS ANGELES, Calif. - The Whittier College men's water polo team's season will continue as it earned the seventh seed in this weekend's Western Water Polo Association Tournament announced this morning by the WWPA. The eight-team tournament will begin on Friday, November 20, and run through Sunday, November 22, at Chapman University.

The Poets drew the second seeded Falcons of The United States Air Force Academy in their opening round game. Whittier and Air Force will open up the tournament on Friday at 10 am.

Air Force finished the regular-season 17-12 while the Poets finished 19-12 and second in the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.

Whittier and Air Force are no strangers to each other as the two programs met on October 2 at the Claremont Convergence Tournament. The Poets held a 3-2 lead at the end of the first quarter but were blanked in the second quarter which proved to be the difference. The Falcons went on to a 10-8 win.

Loyola Marymount University claimed the No. 1 seed in the tournament and will take on host Chapman University who is the No. 8 seed.

No. 3 UC San Diego, No. 4 Santa Clara, No. 5 UC Davis and No. 6 Redlands round out the eight-team championship.

Tickets are $10 for adults and $8 for students with a valid ID and children under 12.
