REDLANDS, Calif. – The Whittier College Men's Water Polo team suffered their second conference loss on the season Wednesday night as they fell 10-8 to the University of Redlands.
It was a four-goal third period that proved the difference in the victory for the Bulldogs. After a 3-0 UR run to start off the game, the Poets came back with three of their own from Hans Zdolsek (Linkoping, Sweden), Tim Aakhus (Bakersfield, Calif.), and Aidan Tol (Tustin, Calif.), which spanned into the second quarter.
Spencer Allen gave the lead back the Bulldogs soon after but with 2:44 to play Marc-Andre Roy (Montreal, Canada) would connect that deadlocked the game at 4-4 at the break.
Zdolsek and Tol connected for the go-ahead goal to start the third but that lead would evaporate as UR would rattle off four unanswered that swung the momentum moving the score to 8-5. Andre-Roy put away a 5-meter to cap off the third period to pull WC within two but that's as close as the Poets would get as both teams would connect with two each in the final eight minutes.
Whittier held the advantage on offense outshooting the Bulldogs 30-20 but was a mere 1-3 on power-play opportunities.
Murat Ersoz (Istanbul, Turkey) played all 32:00 and finished with seven saves and two steals.
Whittier remains on the road this Saturday, November 4 as they travel to take on Chapman University beginning at 11:00am.
