  • Cross Country Credits Camaraderie, Coaching, and Administration for Championship Run

    Surpassing expectations, the No. 28 ranked Whittier College Men’s Cross Country team placed 23rd of the 32 qualifying teams at the NCAA Division III National Championships this past Saturday. The Louisville Sports Commission and Spalding University co-hosted the event at E.P. “Tom” Sawyer State Park, Louisville, Kentucky.

    LOUISVILLE, KY – The Whittier College Men's Cross-Country team made history Saturday morning (Nov 19, 2016) in Louisville, KY during the NCAA Division III National Championships as they finished 23rd out of a field of 32 teams. The 23rd place finish beats the 28th ranking going into the Championships, and beats the highest ranking on the season (24th) which came after our SCIAC Championships race. It also bests the top team cross country finish ever which was 24th place by the women's team in 1994. Individually, sophomore Julian Sandoval's time and place was the second best men's performance ever.

    The Whittier College Men’s Cross Country team moved up eight places to No. 24 in the Division III Cross Country National Polls heading into the regional championships this past Saturday and made good on the implied prediction of becoming one of the minorities of 400 men’s cross country teams to qualify for the national championships.

  • Cross Country Camp Concludes with race in Carbon Canyon

    The men’s and women’s cross country teams opened their seasons with a high altitude training camp and race August 27 – September 3. The teams have been running long and hard at elevations exceeding 10,000 feet in the mountains near Mammoth Lakes, CA before a quick descent to Brea, CA for Saturday’s Mark Covert Invitational. “We use this opportunity to teach our runners how to compete on sore legs, with tired bodies, and compromised minds”, commented Coach Greg Phillips. The men scored a 4th place finish out of 12 teams in the open division. The women placed 6th of nine teams.
