Whittier, Calif. - Head Whittier College Women's and Men's Cross Country Coach Greg Phillips released his 2018 meet schedule Monday.
The Poet harriers will open their season Saturday, September 8 at Irvine Regional Park and the Vanguard Invitational. An extensive three-week training period will follow prior to the Mustang Stampede on September 29 and the Pomona Invitational on October 6. Next, the team will tune-up for SCIAC Championships with a Friday evening, October 19 visit to neighboring Cal State Fullerton and the Titan Invitational. SCIAC Championships, scheduled for October 27 at Prado Regional Park, will determine the conference standings and Whittier's entries for the NCAA West Regional. This year's Regional is hosted by Whitman College at Veterans Memorial Golf Course, Walla Walla, Washington on November 10. Exceptional team or individual performance at Regionals will qualify for the National Championships hosted by the University of Wisconsin, Oshkosh on November 17.
In 2017, Julissa Tobias and Julian Sandoval qualified for the National Championships, becoming the 37th and 38th Whittier College cross country qualifications since 1990. The men's team extended its win streak to 6 consecutive seasons placing top-half of the nine-member Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. The women's team recorded its 9th top-half or mid conference finish in the past 10 seasons.
