Softball Sweeps Menlo in Non-Conference Doubleheader

Amanda Carrasco '10 had six RBI in two games to lead Whittier College to a pair of wins in a doubleheader against Menlo College at Palmer Softball Stadium on February 8.  The Poets took game one by a score of 11-10 in eight innings and then won game two 5-3 after five innings, when the game was called due to darkness.

In game one, Carrasco went 3-for-4 with a home run (2), four RBI and two runs scored.  Molly Yriate '11 was also 3-for-4 in the game with a pair of RBI and three runs scored.

Vicky Ovieda '09 walked three times and had two RBI.  Brianna McEntee '11 also had two RBI.  Mary Pacheco '10 and Dyan Acevedo '09 scored three and two runs, respectively.  Deena Arenas '08 (1-1) pitched all eight innings to earn the win.

In the nightcap, Carrasco hit her third homer of the season, this one a solo shot in the third inning that tied the game.  It was her only hit in the game, and she reached base in her two other plate appearances with walks.  Acevedo, Pacheco and McEntee each drove in runs in the fourth inning that put the Poets ahead for good.

The Poets have another non-conference doubleheader on February 10, when California State University, East Bay comes to town.  First pitch is scheduled for 10:00am.
