Softball unveils 2010 schedule

WHITTIER, Calif. - The Whittier College softball team has announced its 2010 schedule that includes six non-conference doubleheaders and a trip to Tucson, Ariz., to participate in the Tucson Invitational on March 19-21.

The Poets finished the 2009 campaign 24-18 which completed the team's third straight 20-win season. Whittier opens their season on February 6, at 12 pm, with a doubleheader against Chapman University.

Last season Whittier and Chapman split its series.

The purple and gold play their first conference doubleheader on February 20 when they host Occidental at 12 pm. In '09, WC finished 11-13 in SCIAC competition and advanced to its first SCIAC Postseason Tournament.

Hope International is the lone NAIA school on the schedule. The Poets host HIU on February 10 at 1 pm. Pacific Lutheran, La Sierra, Menlo and Linfield round out WC's non-conference slate.

Last year, Whittier went 13-3 against non-conference opponents which includes a season sweep of La Sierra and Pacific Lutheran.
