Swimming Begins Season at Pomona Invite
The Whittier College swimming teams began their season at the
Pomona-Pitzer Invitational on November 4. The men finished in
11th place of eleven teams with 28 points and the women finished
10th of ten teams with 103 points.
On the men's side, Cal Baptist won the meet with 889 team
points. Sam Benedum '09 finished in fourth
in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:04.79. He also
finished 10th in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 51.87
seconds and 12th place in the 50-yard freestyle in 23.14 seconds to
lead the Poets. John Stewart '09 finished in
16th place in the 100 yard backstroke in 1:02.12.
Cal Baptist also won on the women's side with 808 team points. Whittier's 200-yard freestyle relay team of Nicole Sandoval '08, Cassidy Lake '08, Sarah Peel '10 and Indre Lauraitis '10 finished in ninth place with a time of 1:51.45. Lauraitis, Kera Kimura '10, Moemi Kobayashi '09 and Caroline Galvin '08 also finished in ninth place in the 200-yard medley relay in 2:11.20. Kimura finished in 15th place in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:16.64.
