Swimming Loses First SCIAC Meet, Poets 200-yard Medley Relay Sets WC Record
The Whittier College men's 200-yard medley relay team set a new
school record, but Whittier College men lost 119-82 and the
women lost 101-41 at Claremont-Mudd-Scripps on December 1.
The team of Jake Stewart '09, Manny Sanchez '08,
Lance Haver '10 and Sam Benedum '09 took
first in the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:42.40 seconds,
beating the previous record of 1:42.75 set in 2005 by A.J.
Kotanjian, Sanchez, Michael Wensman and Chris Wilson. Sanchez
also finished first in the 200-yard individual medley in 1:59.62
and the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:00.58. Benedum
finished first in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 49.92
seconds and finished second to Sanchez in the 100 breaststroke in
1:05.02. Stewart took first place in the 100-yard backstroke
in 58.65 seconds.
For the women, Indre Lauraitis '10 finished second in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:08.29. Kera Kimura '10 took second in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:14.43.
