Swimming Loses to La Verne By Narrow Margin, Sanchez '08 Yet to Lose a Race This Season

Manny Sanchez '08 finished first in every event he swam, but the Whittier College men lost 128-101 at home against the University of La Verne in Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action on December 2. The women were also edged by the Leopards, 94-88.
Sanchez won the 200-yard freestyle (1:51.06), the 200-yard
individual medley (2:05.35) and the 100-yard breaststroke
(58.22). In the breaststroke, Sanchez was over eight seconds
ahead of the second place finisher. The 200-yard medley relay
team of Jake Stewart '09, Sam Benedum '09, Lance Haver
'10, and Sean Larsen '10 finished first
with a time of 1:46.47. In the 100-yard backstroke, Whittier
men took the top three places with Stewart finishing first
(1:00.47), Matt Rogers '08 in second (1:01.47) and
Matt Brammer '09 in third place (1:03.22).
For the women, the 200-yard medley relay team of Indre
Lauraitis '10, Kera Kimura '10, Catherine Gouge '08 and
Nicole Sandoval '08 took first place with a time
of 2:00.19. Kimura also finished first in the 200-yard
individual medley with a mark of 2:25.09 and the 100-yard
breaststroke in 1:13.25. Lauraitis won the 100-yard
backstroke in 1:07.41. Ashley Papenbrock '08
finished first in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 6:16.53.
