Men's and Women's Swimming Lose at Redlands, Sanchez '08 Sets Pool Record in 200-yd Breaststroke


Manuel Sanchez '08 set a new pool record in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:09.89, but the Whittier College men lost 189-46 to the University of Redlands in Redlands, Calif. on December 9.  The Whittier women lost as well, by a score of 190-31.

Sanchez broke the old record of 2:12.28 set by a UC-Santa Cruz swimmer almost exactly a year ago on December 10, 2005.  Sanchez beat the second place finisher by nearly thirteen seconds.  Tim Beck '10 finished second in the 1,650-yard freestyle with a time of 19:29.58.  Beck was joined by Sean Larsen '10, Lance Haver '10 and Sam Benedum '09 to take second place in the 200-yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:35.51.

The best finish for the women on the day came from Caroline Gouge '08 who finished second in the 100-yard freestyle in 59.59 seconds.  Kera Kimura '10 finished third in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:38.76.
