Men's and Women's Swimming Fall at Home to Cal Lutheran, Sanchez '08 and Benedum '09 Each Win Three Events


Manuel Sanchez '08 won the 100-yard breaststroke, 200-yard individual medley and was a member of the winning 200-yard freestyle relay team, but the Whittier College men lost 118-84 to Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference rival California Lutheran University at Lillian Slade Aquatics Center in Whittier, Calif. on January 13.  The women also lost to California Lutheran the same day by a score of 141-55.

Sanchez took first in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 59.37 seconds.  His time in the 200-yard individual medley was 1:59.62.  Sam Benedum '09 finished first in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 22.47 seconds.  He also took first in the 100-yard freestyle in 49.94 seconds with teammate Chris Villanueva '09 finishing in second in 53.06 seconds.  Sanchez, Benedum and Villanueva teamed up with Tim Beck '10 to win the 200-yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:32.68

On the women's side, the team of Indre Lauraitis '10, Kera Kimura '10, Catherine Gouge '08 and Nicole Sandoval '08 finished second in the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 2:02.50.  Gouge finished second in the 100-yard freestyle in 59.28 seconds.
