2006-07 Poets Swimming Recap

Men's and Women's Swimming finished their seasons at seventh
place in the SCIAC. The highlight of the season was the
performances of junior Manny Sanchez in the SCIAC Championships and
the NCAA Championships. Sanchez won SCIAC championships in
the 100 and 200-yard breaststroke and the 200-yard individual
medley. He set a SCIAC Championships meet and Whittier
College record in the 200 breastroke. He then went on to the
NCAA Championships in Houston, Texas and participated in those same
three events. He earned All-American honors in the 100
breaststroke and All-American honorable mention in the 200
breaststroke. His time in the 100 breaststroke at the NCAA's
also broke his previous Whittier College record.
On the women's side, junior Catherine Gouge was a finalist at the
SCIAC Championships in the 100-yard freestyle and a consolation
finalist in the 200 individual medley and the 50 freestyle.
Freshman Kera Kimura reached the finals at the Championships
in the 200 yard breaststroke and the consolation finals in the 100
breaststroke. Freshman Indre Lauraitis was a consolation
finalist in the 200 yard backstroke. The 200-yard medley
relay team of Indre Lauraitis, Kera Kimura, Catherine Gouge and
Nicole Sandoval broke the Whittier College record in the event at
the SCIAC Championships.
