Track & Field Women Finish 6th at SCIAC Multi-Duals

Shuree Gangloff '09 took the top spot in the discus with a mark of 132'10" as the Whittier College women's track and field team finished sixth at the SCIAC Multi-Duals hosted by Pomona-Pitzer on April 14.  The women finished 2-5 at the meet, while the men finished 0-7.

Gangloff single-handedly accumulated 97 points for the Poets.  She also finished third in the shot put with a personal record throw of 36'9" and third in the hammer throw with another personal record mark of 135'0".  Gangloff's performance moved her into third on Whittier's all-time list in the hammer throw and fourth in the shot put.  She already holds the school record in the dicus.  Dana Allen '07 set a personal record in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 15.45 seconds, good for second place in the event and second place on Whittier's all-time list.  Allen also placed fourth in the high jump. 

Other Poets performed well at the meet on the women's side.  Darlene Partida '10 finished fourth in the 1500-meter run with a personal best time of 4:53.93.  Erin Patterson '10 also set a personal best, taking fourth place in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:24.12.  Molly Loesche '07 finished third in the javelin with a personal record mark of 114'4".  Monique Malgarejo '10 ran a personal best time in the 200-meter dash, crossing the finish line in 28.78.

The men were led by Chris Gartrell '08 with a sixth place finish in the 100-meter dash and a fifth place time in the 200-meter dash (personal best, 22.19 seconds).  He accounted for 53 points on the day. Also running well was Ryan Munoz '09 in the 100 (personal best, 11.89 seconds), Matt Gocke '10 in the 200 (personal best 23.89 seconds)  and 400-meter dash (53.00 seconds). Raphael Rodriquez(10) is now tenth on the all-time list in the 3000-meter steeplechase (10:05.07)  and finished in sixth place in his first time ever running the event.
