Whittier College Track and Field Season Underway at Caltech Meet

Whittier College Track and Field got their 2008 season started at the non-scoring Caltech All-Comers meet in Pasadena, Calif., on February 9.  The Poets used the meet as a tune-up for the upcoming season, getting their freshman experience in a college meet and the upperclassmen some work as they prepare for a run at a SCIAC Championship.

Matt Gocke ‘10 did very well in the 60- and 300-meter hurdle races. He recorded a time of 11.9 seconds in the 60M, and 45.6 seconds in the 300M.  Jimmy Oliver ‘11 had a solid first meet in both the 60- and 100-meter races with times of 7.5 and 11.8 seconds, respectively.  TC Collymore '10 equaled his best high jump mark (6'1.25") from last year. Three men's shot putters threw better than the best team mark from last year.

On the women's side, Allison Yuen ‘11 did well in the sprints, posting a time of 8.9 seconds in the 60-meter dash and 14.5 in the 100-meter dash. The women's 4X1600 relay team of Meghan Reynolds ‘11, Jessica Mena ‘11, Jessica Medina ‘11, and Darline Partida ‘10 ran a solid race with a time of 24:44.4. 2007 All-American, Shuree Gangloff ‘09 did well in the hammer and discus with throws of 131' 2.75" and 125' 10.25", respectively.
