Whittier College Track and Field Season Underway at Caltech Meet
Whittier College Track and Field got their 2008 season started
at the non-scoring Caltech All-Comers meet in Pasadena, Calif., on
February 9. The Poets used the meet as a tune-up for the
upcoming season, getting their freshman experience in a college
meet and the upperclassmen some work as they prepare for a run at a
SCIAC Championship.
Matt Gocke ‘10 did very well in the 60- and 300-meter hurdle
races. He recorded a time of 11.9 seconds in the 60M, and 45.6
seconds in the 300M. Jimmy Oliver ‘11 had a solid
first meet in both the 60- and 100-meter races with times of 7.5
and 11.8 seconds, respectively. TC Collymore '10 equaled his
best high jump mark (6'1.25") from last year. Three men's shot
putters threw better than the best team mark from last year.
On the women's side, Allison Yuen ‘11 did well in the
sprints, posting a time of 8.9 seconds in the 60-meter dash and
14.5 in the 100-meter dash. The women's 4X1600 relay team of Meghan
Reynolds ‘11, Jessica Mena ‘11, Jessica Medina
‘11, and Darline Partida ‘10 ran a solid race with a
time of 24:44.4. 2007 All-American, Shuree Gangloff ‘09 did
well in the hammer and discus with throws of 131' 2.75" and 125'
10.25", respectively.
