Track and Field Takes Part in Pomona All-Comers Meet

Whittier College track and field continued its season at the Pomona All-Comers meet in Claremont, Calif., on February 16.  It is the second non-scoring meet the Poets have participated in this year.

Despite a number of injuries that hinder the Poets early this season, there were several key performers on the men's side. Chris Gartrell ‘08 did well in the 200- and 400-meter dash events as he is showing improved speed and endurance over last year's very successful season.  He posted a time of 22.7 seconds in the 200M and 50.9 in the 400M.  Bryce Holewinski ‘11 ran a solid 3000-meter race, crossing the finish line in 9:30.4. TC Collymore ‘10 did very well in the Long (19' 6.75"), Triple (41' 9.75") and High (5'10") jumps. The throwers were led by Devin Farrow '10, who improved on his efforts the previous week with top marks in the Hammer Throw (72' 3"), Shot Put (45" 4.5") and Discus (139' 11").

The women also faired well in the meet. Kashima Patridge ‘11 did well in the sprints and jumps.  She recorded a time of 13.5 seconds in the 100-meter dash and a mark of 16' 3.25" in the Long Jump.  Julia Tyack ‘08 ran a good early season time of 11:40.5 in the 3000-meter run. Shuree Gangloff ‘09 is coming into mid-season form in all three of her throwing events. She finished with marks of 126' 7" in the Hammer Throw, 34' 5.25" in the Shot Put, and 137' 4" in the Discus.

The Poets are in action again on February 23 at the Rossi Relays hosted by Claremont-Mudd-Scripps.  The meet is scheduled to begin at 12:00pm.
