Track and Field at the 12th Annual Rossi Relays

Members of the Whittier College track & field team took part in the 12th Annual Rossi Relays hosted by Claremont-Mudd-Scripps on February 23.  Their first SCIAC meet of the season is one week away.

Only four women made the trip to Claremont, but they all turned in strong performances. Shuree Gangloff '09 finished fourth in the discus with a mark of 132' 1", and ninth in the hammer throw at 130' 1".  Shelia Enos '11 was eleventh in the discuss (110' 6") and 17th in the shot put (33' 7.25").  Darlene Partida ‘10 ran a personal record in the 3000-meter run with a 11:05.86.  Kashima Patridge ‘11 finished 15th in the high jump, clearing 4' 7.75".  She was 16th in the long jump with a mark of 16' 2".

The men were led by a pair of freshman in the field events.  Brad Seitz '11, despite throwing javelin for just three weeks, finished fifth in the event with a 153' 10" throw.  Devin Farrow '11 went 140' 11" in discus for 4th and followed that up with a 42' 10.25' shot put for 11th.  TC Collymore '10 took seventh in the high jump, clearing 5' 10".  The sprint medley relay team of Chris Gartrell '08, Jimmy Oliver ‘11, Matt Gocke ‘10, and Jonathon Brasfield ‘11 put in a 3:58.1 clocking for 10th.  Nick Daum '08 was tripped during the 3000-meter run, but recovered to finish in 9:39.49.

The Poets' next meet will be the first conference meet of the season, the SCIAC Invitational March 1.  The event begins at 10:30am at Pomona-Pitzer Colleges.
