Track & Field at the Soka Invitational

The Whittier College Track and Field teams took part in the Soka
University Peace Invitational on March 8. The event was a
non-scoring event and included three Division I schools in the
field.
Chris Gartrell ‘08 won the men's 100-meter dash (11.16) and
took second in the 200 (22.52). Both the men's and women's 4x100
relay teams finished second with the women running 54.82 and the
men a 45.63. The men's 4x400 relay team took fifth with a
time of 3:44.71. Matt Gocke ‘10 took eighth in the 400-meter
dash (53.55) and fifth in the 400-meter hurdles (63.28). TC
Collymore '10 tied for second in high jump with a mark of 1.78m
and third in the triple jump with a distance of 13.01m.
Brad Seitz ‘11 threw the javelin 44.21m for an eighth
place finish. Brandon Wilcox ‘11 improved on a personal best
by over two feet in shot put to take seventh with a mark of
13.15m.
On the women's side, Kashima Patridge ‘11 finished fifth in
the long jump with a mark of 5.13m and eleventh in the high jump at
4' 6". Rosario Rios-Aquilar ‘08 took ninth in the high
jump with a 4' 8". Shuree Gangloff ‘09 took third in
the hammer with a toss of 40.09m, seventh in the discus with a
35.15m throw and seventh in the javelin with a mark of
29.38m. Erin Patterson ‘10 took seventh in the
400-meter dash with a 65.83 clocking.
The Poets are in action again on March 14 at the Occidental College
Distance Carnival. It is their final tune-up before the SCIAC
Four-Way meet at Caltech the next day.
