Track and Field has Strong Performance at SCIAC Four Way Meet

Whittier College track and field took part in the SCIAC Lower Quad Meet hosted by Caltech on March 15.  It was the second SCIAC meet of the season.

The women were led by an outstanding effort from Kashima Patridge ‘11 as she won four events on the day.  She won the 100-meter dash, 100 hurdles, long jump, and triple jump and also placed third in the high jump to score 46 points by herself.  She made it into the Whittier all-time top ten in the 100 (13.20, 9th), and the 100H (16.7, 5th). Also making it into the all-time top ten was Rosario Rios-Aquilar '08 in the 400-meter dash (64.31, 7th) and high jump (4' 1.75", 9th) as she won both events. Shuree Gangloff ‘09 won the discus and the hammer while placing third in the javelin and fifth in the shot put. She made the NCAA National provisional mark for the discus with a distance of 137' 4" and had personal bests in the hammer (137' 9") and the javelin (98' 0"). The women's team scored points in 14 of the 18 events.

The men were led by TC Collymore ‘10 as he also entered the all-time top ten list with a 6' 3.5" in the high jump (tied for 8th all time), winning the event. Collymore also won the triple jump and took second in the long jump, third in the javelin, and fourth in the 110-meter hurdles. Chris Gartrell ‘08 had two close second place finishes in the 100 and 200-meter dashes.  Devin Farrow ‘09 won the shot put and took second in the discus and Brad Seitz ‘11 won the javelin. It was a great team effort as the men scored points in 17 events while placing three athletes in the shot put, discus, and javelin and two athletes in the 800 and 1500-meter runs.

The teams next compete March 22 at Point Loma University in San Diego.
