Track: Five Poets Take Part in CA/NV Championships
The Whittier College track & field teams took five athletes
to the CA/NV Championship meet where they competed against many DIV
I & II and several SCIAC teams. This was a high level meet
where athletes had to qualify for entry. Those athletes
representing Whittier were TC Collymore ‘10, Devin Farrow
‘10, Shuree Gangloff ‘09, Chris Gartrell ‘08, and
Kashima Patridge ‘11.
Collymore competed in the high jump and did well (6' .75"), but
came alive in the triple jump to place eighth and improve on his
all-time best by going 45' 3". This moves him to the top of the
list in the SCIAC and up to fifth best on the Whittier all-time top
ten list. This also brings Collymore to within 8.25" of the
provisional qualifying mark for the NCAA national meet.
Farrow had a good day in the shot put at 44' 9.75",
but recorded a personal best of 150' 7" in the discus to
qualify for the finals and move him up to third in the SCIAC and
fourth on the Whittier all-time top ten list. He is within 5' 3" of
the provisional qualifying mark for the NCAA national meet.
Gangloff had a good meet, but not up to her standards in the discus
(115' 7") and did not make it to the finals. Gartrell ran a
good race in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.34, but pulled up
at the finish with with a hamstring injury and had to withdraw
from the 200. Patridge sprained her ankle on her first
attempt with the triple jump and her day was finished.
The next competition will be at the Pomona-Pitzer Invitational on
April 5. The meet begins in Claremont, Calif., at 9:30am.
