Two Poets Win Titles at Track & Field Championships

Shuree Gangloff '09 won the Conference Championship in the
discus as the Whittier College women finished in sixth place at the
2008 SCIAC Championships hosted by Claremont-Mudd-Scripps on April
25 and 26. TC Collymore '10 took home the triple jump title
on the men's side as they finished eighth.
Gangloff won the discus with a mark of 137' 11" and went on to
finish fourth in both the hammer (143' 9", a six-foot improvement
on her personal best) and the shot put (36'8.25"). Four other
Poets earned All-SCIAC honors in six events. Rosario
Rios-Aguilar '08 finished third in the 400m hurdles with a personal
best time of 66.09. She finished sixth place in the high jump
with a 4' 11.75" jump. Kashima Partridge '11 finished third
in the long jump (16' 8.5") and sixth in the 100m hurdles with a
personal best 15.81. Essence Scott ‘11took sixth place
in shot put with a personal best of 36' 2.25" and Shelia Enos '11
was sixth in the discus at 112'.
Collymore's jump of 46' 6.75" was good for a NCAA provisional
qualifying mark and a personal best. The mark is currently
tied for 14th in the nation. He also earned
All-SCIAC in the high jump with a sixth place finish (6' 0").
Brad Seitz '11 finished third in the javelin by increasing his
personal best with a throw of 173'11". Brandon Wilcox '11
took fourth in the shot put with a personal best 44'
10.25".
The Poets will take part in the Occidental Invitational on May 10
as a number of athletes strive towards a qualifying mark for the
NCAA Championships. Both Gangloff and Collymore have already
posted provisional marks.
