Track & Field Has Two Strong Heptathlon Performances

Two Poets traveled to Claremont, Calif., to compete in the
heptathlon at the Claremont Classic on May 3. Rosario
Rios-Aguilar '08 and Kashima Partridge '11 showed off their
versatility, climbing the ranks on the Whittier All-Time list in a
number of events within the heptathlon.
Rios-Aguilar finished with a total point score of 4107,
provisionally qualifying her for the NCAA Championships with the
23rd best performance in Division III. In her
first time competing in the heptathlon, she moved into second place
on the College's all-time list. In the process she had
several all time performances: fifth all time in long jump at 16'
3.25", third in the 200 at 27.08, eighth in the 800 at 2:28.29, and
fifth in the javelin at 121' 7". She won the javelin and 800
individual events.
Partridge was well on the way to qualifying for the NCAA
Championships, but a strained hamstring gave her problems in the
200 and 800. She scored a total of 3782 points and won individual
events in the 100m hurdles at 15.35 and the long jump at 17'
1/2". Her time in the 100m hurdles puts her second
on the all-time list and she is third in the heptathlon.
The Poets have one more meet before the NCAA Championships.
They travel to Eagle Rock, Calif., for the Occidental Invitational
on May 10.
