CLAREMONT, Calif. – Sophomore Piper Lowinger (Whittier, Calif.) had a big day at the Pomona-Pitzer Invitational leading the small contingent of Whittier College Men's & Women's Track & Field athletes.
Lowinger set a new school record in the 100 Hurdles with a time of 14.99, which placed her 12th overall in the field. Freshman Elyse Espe (Wishon, Calif.) in her first outdoor 400m race of her Poet career finished 23rd overall but landed 6th on the Whittier College All-Time list coming in at a 60.40.
Distance runner Anahy Covarrubias (Los Angeles, Calif.) put together her season best in the 800m racing to a 2:16.77, which put her 18th. Other notable marks on the women's side included Julissa Tobias (Norwalk, Calif.) finishing 20th in the 1,500m, the 4x100 Relay of Lowinger, Hannah Duran-Wright (Palm Springs, Calif.), Danielle Guardado (Covina, Calif.), and Tiazha Hogue (Redlands, Calif.) finishing 12th (51.11), Melissa Tobias (Norwalk, Calif.) taking 34th in the Pole Vault (2.65m), Duran Wright in the Long Jump with a mark of 5.16m, which put her 24th and then returning in the Triple Jump with a 10.27m, which put her 23rd.
In the throws, Christina Prieto (La Mirada, Calif.) and Sabrina Van Beek (Atascadero, Calif.) took 29th in the Shot Put (9.56m) and Discus (32.64m), respectively. Prieto returned in the Hammer with a throw of 34.33m putting her 29th.
On the men's side, freshman Hakim Williams Jr. (Riverside, Calif.) competed in the 110H and put together a quick time of 15.64, which was 2nd among all Div. III runners placing him 13th. Other notable finishes included Ray Ray Roberson (Albuquerque, NM) in the 400m posting a time of 50.79 for 26th, Julian Sandoval (El Monte, Calif.) going 4:01.37 in the 1500m for 22nd, Craig Rogers (Whittier, Calif.) in the 110 Hurdles (28th – 16.53), and the 4x100 Relay of Roberson, Robert Marquez Jr. (West Covina, Calif.), William Jr., and Gabriel Pridgen-Daniels (Sacramento, Calif.) taking 9th with a 44.15.
In the Pole Vault, Miguel Redmond (San Jose, Calif.) had a nice day with a mark of 4.50m for 9th, and Adrien Perez (Pico Rivera, Calif.) and Theodore Ragsac (West Hills, Calif.) would go 25th and 26th respectively in the Hammer with throws of 31.41 and 31.36, respectively.
