Women's Basketball Loses Thriller on Opening Night, Poets Play in Menlo Tourney Nov. 25-26

Michelle Araw '07 scored a game-high 22 points, but Whittier College lost 80-78 in their season opener to College of St. Catherine (MN) on November 17.

Araw was seven of eight from the field, including four of five three-pointers.  Rosario rios-Aguilar '08 finished with 17 points for the Poets.  Michelle Mascoto '07 filled the stat sheet with eleven points, eleven rebounds, five assists and five steals.

Leading the way for St. Catherine was Rachel Berglund with 21 points and seven rebounds.  The Wildcats had four players in double figures.

The Poets fell behind 16-0 early in the game when Araw came off the bench and provided an offensive spark.  Whittier fought back to take a 52-48 lead at the half.  The Poets shot over 61 percent from the field and 75 percent from behind the arc in the first half.  The second half was back and forth and came down to a final shot for the Poets that missed to give the Wildcats the 80-78 victory.
