Women's Basketball Loses at La Verne, Allen '07 Leads Poets with 10 Points

Dana Allen '07 scored a team-high ten points and pulled down eight rebounds, but Whittier College lost 71-47 to the University of La Verne in Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action in La Verne, Calif. on January 13.  The loss drops the Poets record to 6-6 overall and 0-2 in conference play.

Six of Allen's eight rebounds came on the offensive end and she also finished with three steals.  Michelle Mascoto '07 and Christa Rainville '08 finished with nine points apiece.  The Poets trailed 51-29 at halftime.  They shot under 30 percent from the field in the game, made just 2-of-14 from the three point line and just 7-of-16 from the charity stripe.

La Verne (9-3, 2-0 SCIAC) shot the lights out in the first half, making nearly 68 percent of their shots including 7-of-13 from the three-point line.  They were led by Marissa Raya who scored 23 in the game with seven three's.
