Women's Basketball Dropped By Occidental, Mascoto '07 Finishes with Game-High 24

Michelle Mascoto '07 scored a game-high 24 points and pulled down seven rebounds, but Whittier College lost 65-49 to Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference rival Occidental College in Los Angeles, Calif. on February 1.  The Poets are now 8-9 overall and 2-5 in SCIAC play.

Mascoto also pitched in with a game-high four steals and two assists for the Poets.  Desiree Flores '08 was the only other Poet in double figures, scoring ten points.  The Poets shot just 28 percent from the field in the game and turned the ball over 19 times.

Occidental held a 31-22 lead at halftime and extended their lead shooting over 43 percent from the field in the game.  The Tigers held a 49-38 edge in rebounds, 15 of those rebounds coming on the offensive end.
