Women's Basketball Loses Season Finale, Mascoto '07 Gets Double-Double in Final Game

Michelle Mascoto '07 scored 15 points and
grabbed 15 rebounds in her final game as a Poet, but Whittier
College lost 75-62 to Occidental College on "PAC the GAC" night at
the Graham Athletics Center on February 22. The Poets finish
their season with a 12-13 overall record and 5-9 in conference
play.
Mascoto's double-double was her seventh this season. She
was also credited with five steals and three assists.
Rosario Rios-Aguilar '08 was the only other Poet
in double figures with 12 points. She also grabbed six
rebounds. Dana Allen '07 and Megan
Wingo '07 each scored nine points and had six and four
rebounds, respectively.
Occidental's 29-22 halftime lead was the largest for either team in a half the saw three tie scores. The Poets were unable to find their range from beyond the arc, shooting 0-for-5 in the first half and just 1-for-15 in the game. Occidental hit a third of their three-point attempts, going 6-for-18 from deep. Both teams shot forty percent from the field in the game. The Poets held a slight advantage in rebounds, 41-36, but turned the ball over four more times than the Tigers. Occidental kept the Poets from gaining the lead in the entire second half, building their lead to as many as 16.
