Mascoto '07 to play overseas, signs contract with Lemvig Basket in Denmark
Michelle Mascoto '07 recently signed a contract
to play basketball for Lemvig Basket, a basketball club on the west
coast of Denmark. The team plays at the second level of
Denmark's women's league, where they finished in fourth place last
season. "The goal [next season] is to reach the top two,"
said Lemvig Basketball associate Rene Jakobsen. "Michelle
will be a key player to reach that goal."
Mascoto led the Poets with over 30 minutes played per
game, 11.3 points per game, 7.9 rebounds per game, 84 assists and
85 steals.
In the conference, Mascoto led the SCIAC in steals. She was
ninth in scoring, fifth in rebounding, 13th in field goal
percentage (.385), fourth in assists, tenth in free throw
percentage (.667) and 11th in three-point field goal percentage
(.299). She was 13th in three's made (26), 13th in blocked
shots (10) and sixth in assist-to-turnover ratio.
"I am really excited about this opportunity," said Mascoto.
"This is something I have wanted for a long time. It's going
to be a great life experience." She is not the first SCIAC
stand out that has played for Lemvig. Three players from
California Lutheran University ventured to Denmark to play for the
club in the past. Mascoto leaves to join the club on August
13.
