Poets Lose a Pair at Tiger/Poet Classic, Rios-Aguilar Scores 40 Points in Two Games


Rosario Rios-Aguilar '08 scored 40 points in two games to earn All-Tournament honors, but Whittier College lost both games in the Tiger/Poet Classic hosted by Occidental College on December 17 and 18.  On day one, the Poets lost 66-49 to Wartburg College.  In the third place game, the Poets lost 72-55 to Viterbo University to drop their record to 2-4 this season.

Rios-Aguilar scored a game-high 19 points and grabbed seven rebounds against Wartburg.  She also pitched in with three steals and two assists.  Kourtney Zilbert '11 and Essence Scott '11 each scored eight points.  Zilbert also finished with four steals and Scott pulled down six boards.


Against Viterbo, Rios-Aguilar scored a game-high 21 points, grabbed seven rebounds, and was credited with four steals, two assists and a blocked shot.  Zilbert scored 13 points and had two steals.  Scott finished with seven points and seven rebounds.  Ashley Vierra '10 had a team-high three assists and was named to the All-Tournament team with Rios-Aguilar.

The Poets take on Tranzylvania College in their next game on New Year's Eve.  The game is scheduled to tip-off at the Graham Athletics Center at 12pm.
