Poets Win Convincingly on New Year's Eve, Rios-Aguilar Scores Team-High 15 Points

Rosario Rios-Aguilar '08 scored a team-high 15 points to lead
Whittier College to a 65-50 victory over Transylvania University in
the Graham Athletics Center on December 31. The win improves
the Poets' record to 3-4 on the season.
Rios-Aguilar also grabbed six rebounds and was credited with three
assists and three steals. Kourtney Zilbert '11 finished with
a game-high eleven rebounds and scored eight points. Erica
Amico '10 and Morgan Sabala '11 each hit two three-pointers and
finished with nine and eight points, respectively. Christa
Rainville '08 also scored nine points and pulled down six
rebounds.
The Poets led by six at halftime. They shot 80% from beyond
the three-point line and forced 12 Transylvania turnovers in the
first half. The Poets continued their hot shooting in the
second half, finishing 50% from the field. They also held a
22-6 edge in bench points in the half.
Whittier is in action again on January 4 and 5, when they host the
annual Purple & Gold Poet Classic. They take on Goucher
University (MD) in the first round at 6:00pm. The other two
teams in the women's tournament, Bethany Lutheran and Keene St.
play at 4:00pm.
