Women's Basketball Opens SCIAC Season With a Win, Zilbert Records Second Straight Double-Double

Kourtney Zilbert '11 posted her second straight double-double as
Whittier College opened their Southern California Intercollegiate
Athletic Conference schedule with a 59-40 win over Caltech in
Pasadena, Calif., on January 10. The win improves the Poets'
record to 5-6 overall.
Zilbert scored twelve points and grabbed eleven boards for her
third double-double of the season. Rosario Rios-Aguilar '08
also recorded a double-double with twelve points and ten
rebounds. The leading scorer for the Poets was Stephanie
Anderson, who came off the bench to score 16 points.
The Beavers were led by Jessica Roberts with a game-high 19
points. She also grabbed eight rebounds. Lindsay King
finished with 13 points, seven rebounds and two blocked shots.
The Whittier defense made their presence known in Pasadena.
The Poets forced 22 turnovers and held Caltech to just 25% shooting
from the field. Whittier also held a slight 50-46 edge on the
glass. The Poets turned the ball over just 13 times in the
game, their lowest total of the season.
SCIAC play continues for the Poets on January 12, when California
Lutheran University visits the Graham Athletics Center.
Tip-off is scheduled for 5:00pm.
