Women's Basketball Misses SCIAC Tourney After Loss to OXY

Rosario Rios-Aguilar '08 posted a double-double in her final
game as a Poet, but Whittier College lost 54-51 to SCIAC Champion
Occidental College on February 23. The loss drops the Poets
from playoff contention after Cal Lutheran beat Redlands the same
night to lock up the fourth and final SCIAC Tournament
bid.
Rios-Aguilar had team-highs with twelve points and ten
rebounds. Marie Vodicska '11 was the only other Poet with
double figures in the scoring column. She hit a pair of
three-pointers and finished with eleven points. She also had
a game-high three steals. Kourtney Zilbert '11 finished with
nine points and seven rebounds, all of which came on the offensive
end. Tina Merlino '11 came off the bench to contribute seven
points and six rebounds.
Occidental was led by Stephanie Babij with 13 points and ten
boards. Stacie Roshon also scored thirteen points.
The Poets finish the season with an overall record of 12-13 and
ended up fifth in the SCIAC with a 7-7 record.
