Will Morris Resigns as Women's Basketball Head Coach

Will Morris, head women's basketball coach for the Poets, has
resigned from the position after ten years of service. The
Poets were 12-13 overall in each of the past two seasons.
The Poets narrowly missed a berth into the inaugural SCIAC
Tournament last season with fifth place finish at 7-7 in the
conference. Two Poets were named to All-Conference teams with
Kourtney Zilbert '11 earning first team honors and Rosario
Rios-Aguilar '08 on the second team. Zilbert was also named
the D3Hoops.com West Region Rookie of the Year.
"I appreciate the hard work and dedication that Will has put into
this program over the past ten years," said Whittier College
Director of Athletics Rob Coleman. "He represented the
College with dignity and class and I wish him the best of luck in
his future endeavors. Whittier will begin to search for his
replacement immediately and continue where he left off in building
the program into a SCIAC Champion."
Morris began his coaching career as an assistant at the University
of La Verne. During his three years with the Leopards, they
were nationally ranked every season. The 1992-93 team was
ranked first of all teams in the Western Region, were SCIAC Champs
and reached the NCAA Sweet Sixteen. He then went on to be an
assistant at California State University-East Bay for their
Division II men's basketball program. In his second season,
they won 18 games and were co-champions of the Northern California
Athletic Conference. While at Hayward, his defense was ranked
second nationally in NCAA Division II.
Morris finishes his career with the Poets with an overall record of
118-131. His best season as head coach came in 2000-01 with a
20-5 record. It was the Poets' second 20-win season since
1985.
