Zilbert named SCIAC Female Athlete of the Week
WHITTIER, Calif. - The Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference announced it's Athletes of the Week for the week ending February 23 and Whittier College sophomore forward Kourtney Zilbert was named the Female Athlete of the Week.
Zilbert put together an impressive resume as she averaged 18.5 points and 17.5 rebounds over a two game stretch.
In the Poets' first game of the week Zilbert notched her seventh double-double of the season with a 17-point, 18-rebound effort in an overtime loss to Pomona-Pitzer on February 19. The Burbank, Calif., native backed up that performance with a 20-point, 17-rebound evening against Claremont-Mudd-Scripps on February 21.
The win over CMS clinched the final playoff spot for the purple and gold as the will be playing to earn the program's first SCIAC title since 1986.
For the week Zilbert shot a combined 15-for-28 (54 percent), added four steals and four assists.
Zilbert is the second Whittier College student-athlete to be named SCIAC Athlete of the Week this year. Freshman pitcher Amanda Webster garnered the honors for the week ending February 2.
