WHITTIER, Calif. – The Whittier College Women's Basketball team saw their two-game winning streak come to a close Saturday night inside of the Graham Athletic Center as they dropped a tough 61-45 match-up with the University of Redlands.

The Purple & Gold still remain in the mix for a Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Post Season Tournament berth as they drop to 8-12, 5-6 SCIAC.

Despite holding Bulldog center Reyna Ta'amu to just ten points and four boards, the Poets didn't have an answer for Caitlyn Dixon who poured in 24 points and she proved crucial for UR as they came away with their sixth SCIAC victory.

Whittier found themselves trailing 19-13 with under a minute to play in the first quarter but had freshman Teani White (Burbank, Calif.) add a three-pointer late that kept the margin at four.  In the second quarter WC was able to hold UR to single digits with nine, while adding 11 of their own capped off with a layin from Cali Cubel (Oceanside, Calif.) and a jumper from Emily Guerena (Montebello, Calif.) that moved the score to 29-27 at the break.

But the story of the game was the third period where Redlands poured it on outscoring Whittier 19-5 moving the deficit to 16.  The Purple & Gold tried to come back in the fourth adding 13 but it wasn't enough to take out the Bulldogs at home.

Monica Hanna (Bellflower, Calif.) was big inside finishing with 14 points and eight boards.  White added 11 points on 4-of-7 shooting and Mia Maglinte (Roseville, Calif.) tacked on five points.  Kelsi Ikeda (Honolulu, HI) had a nice game on the glass with six and.

Whittier shot 26% from the field and 15% from behind the arc.  They were outrebounded 40-27 but forced 16 UR turnovers.

Whittier travels this Wednesday, January 31 as they go to Thousand Oaks, Calif. to take on Cal Lutheran University with tip-off set for 7:00pm.
