THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. – Freshman Taylor Beckwith (Turlock, Calif.) led the Whittier College Women's Golf team this week to a 2nd Place finish at the Cal Lutheran Invitational at Sunset Hills Country Club, Par-72, 5806 Yards, as they shot a two round total of 672.
Beckwith totaled a 155 (+11) over the two days despite fighting illness, which included a tournament round low of 75 on Day 1, while finishing with an 80 on Day 2. She tied atop the standings with Valerie Wang (Pomona-Pitzer) who went 78-77 over the two days.
It was a story of two rounds for Kajal Vitha (Whittier, Calif.) who was the second Poet finisher. She sat in 2nd place after Day 1 play with a 77 but ran into trouble on the 2nd putting up a 91 that put her 11th.
Alison Nieh (Novato, Calif.) played consistent over the two days improving two strokes from her first round putting up an 88-86 that put her in a tie for 19th, while junior Ciara Clark (Henderson, NV) was right behind in 21st with an 87-88.
Dual sport athlete Madison Crimi-Demichele (San Jose, Calif.) took part in just one round at the Invite and shot a 90 and was unable to complete the two rounds due to her leaving to take part in two softball games back at school.
Whittier trailed Pomona-Pitzer by 10 strokes following the first round of competition but couldn't catch the Sagehens as they maintained their lead winning the tournament for the first time after finishing in 39 strokes less than second place with a 36-hole tally of 633 (+57). Cal Lutheran climbed into third with a 675, with Chapman (689), Texas Lutheran (722), Occidental (755) and Augsburg (840) rounding out the field, which included seven teams from the Region.
