Women's Lax Takes Two of Three in Tennessee

Whittier College women's lacrosse enjoyed a successful spring
break, winning two out of three at Sewanee College. The Poets
lost their first game, a 22-21 double overtime thriller to Sewanee
on April 2. They bounced back with a 27-6 win over Adrian on
April 4 and an 18-6 win over Dallas on April 5. The Poets
have equaled their 2007 win total and are now 4-5 with four games
to play.
Trill Santin '11 had an outstanding game for the Poets against
Sewanee. She scored five goals, had seven draw controls and
picked up five groundballs. Cassidy Lake '08, Kourtney
Sexauer '08 and Sherise Varga '10 each scored three goals.
Sexauer also grabbed four groundballs and caused three
turnovers. Emily Mukai '10 scored twice. Shari
Brokowsky '08 and Tessa Ente '11 each scored a goal and assisted on
another. Ana Garcia '10 and Danell Booher '09 added one goal
apiece. Jessica Farrell '10 was strong in goal, making 21
saves.
Against Adrian, Santin continued her offensive charge, finishing
with four goals and two assists. She was one of six Poets to
register at least four points. Sexauer also tallied four
goals and two assists and had five draw controls and four
groundballs. Garcia pitched in four goals and one
assist. Varga scored four goals as well. Katie Clinnin
‘11broke out with three goals and an assist, and led the
Poets with nine draw controls. Lake finished with two goals,
two assists and five draw controls. Mukai scored three goals
and Booher, Blakely Rice '10 and Tessa Padilla '11 rounded out the
scoring with one goal apiece. Farrell stopped six shots in
goal.
For the second year in a row, Whittier was able to get a win over
the University of Dallas. Lake led the offense with five
goals, including two on free position attempts. Garcia had
five points as well, netting four goals and adding an assist.
Mukai scored four goals and had a team-high six draw
controls. Sexauer finished with two goals and an assist and
Santin had one goal and an assist. Varga assisted on three
Poet goals and forced three turnovers on defense. Sarah Lamb
'10 led the team with five groundballs. Farrell made six
saves to secure the victory.
The Poets look to stay hot as they head back to the West Coast and
take on Southern California rival, University of Redlands on April
9. The game begins from Redlands, Calif., at 7:00pm.
