Women's Lax Seniors End Careers With Win Over Pacific

Whittier College women's lacrosse finished its season with a
19-5 win over Pacific University on April 19. The win
improved the Poets' record to 5-8 on the season, their highest win
total in program history.
Three seniors played in their final game, and all made
contributions. Cassidy Lake scored three goals, Kourtney
Sexauer added a pair of goals and Shari Brokowsky scored one goal
and had three assists.
Emily Mukai '10 led the Poets with six goals and one assist.
Trill Santin '11 and Sherise Varga '10 each added two goals.
Ana Garcia '10 had a goal and an assist and Kristin DeVaughn '11
rounded out the scoring with a goal of her own.
The Poets dominated the game from the start. They took an
early 5-0 lead and were up 14-3 at the half. They grabbed
more groundballs (28-18) and took nearly four times as many shots
(37-10).
The three seniors on the roster saw a drastic improvement in the
program from when they arrived in 2005. Their first two
seasons went by without a win, followed by the 2007 season that
ended with a then program-best four wins and then the success of
the 2008 season. Whittier was stuck with four wins four three
games, losing to Southern California rivals Claremont-Mudd-Scripps,
Redlands and Pomona before pulling out the convincing victory over
Pacific.
