Poets lead early but fall to Haverford, 11-8
WHITTIER, Calif. - Haverford College scored six goals over an 11-minute span that was the difference in the game as the Whittier College women's lacrosse team fell, 11-8, to the Fords on Friday evening at Memorial Stadium.
The Poets (4-2) led early as they erased an early deficit and scored four unanswered goals to go up 4-1 with 13:12 to play in the first half.
Emily Mukai tallied two goals in that span while Tessa Padilla and Sherise Varga each added scores for WC.
Haverford ended the Whittier run with a goal at the 7:57 mark and scored four of the next five goals, which includes the final score of the half with one-second left, to go up 6-5 at the intermission.
The Poets and Fords traded goals in the early part of the second half but HC went on a 4-1 run midway through the second half to lead 11-7 with 13:12 to play in the game.
Whittier added its final goal with 42 seconds to play but it wasn't enough as they lost by three goals.
Varga finished with a team-high three goals while Mukai and Katie Clinnin each had two goals.
Ana Garcia led the Poets with three caused turnovers while Clinnin had five groundballs.
The Poets return to action on Sunday, March 15, as they host Puget Sound at 11 a.m. at Memorial Stadium.
