Winning ways continue for Poets, win fourth straight

FOREST GROVE, Ore. - The Whittier College women's lacrosse team continued its winning ways on Tuesday evening as they rolled to their fourth straight win. The Poets never trailed as they beat Pacific (Ore.), 15-5.
WC (6-5) rolled off nine first half goals and never looked back. Sherise Varga opened the game with a goal at 29:03 and scored her second goal of the game at 25:44 to give the Poets an early 2-0 advantage.
The purple and gold tallied its next three goals all within one-minute of each other to lead 5-0 with 22:17 left in the first half.
Emily Mukai scored at 22:51 and then assisted Varga for her third goal of the game at 22:32 before Ana Garcia capped the goal barrage with an unassisted strike at 22:17.
Pacific (4-4) cut the Poets' lead to six goals at 10-4 with 18:18 left in the game but Whittier scored five of the final six goals en route to the win.
Lauren Bibby led the Poets with six points (3g, 3a) and Varga added four goals. Seven different Poets scored in the win.
Conny Joel started in goal as finished with 10 saves.
The Poets return home on April 15 to face Pomona-Pitzer in a rematch from earlier this season at 7 p.m. in Memorial Stadium. WC beat the Sagehens 12-11 on February 25.
