LOS ANGELES, Calif. – The Whittier College women's lacrosse team continues to seek their first win of the season but again surrendered twenty goals for the third straight game Saturday evening to the Tigers of Occidental College.

Whittier now drops to 0-4, 0-4 SCIAC, while Occidental improves to 4-1, 3-1 SCIAC.

With starting freshman goalie Nicole Yorba back in the starting lineup the Poets were still unable to stop the attack from the plethora of Oxy players, with goals being scored from seven different players including seven coming from Sarah Kessler.

The Poets received offense from five different players led by Dana Barraco and Amiya Moretta who each finished with three goals apiece.

Future hall of famer junior Carolyn Mukai found it difficult to score as she got off four shots totaling two goals but collected three assists, six ground balls, and ten draw controls.

Whittier jumped out to an early 2-0 lead behind goals from Shaina Denny and Mukai but saw a 5-0 run put on by the Tigers that put them ahead 5-2 until Barraco and Moretta cut the lead to one after they found the back of the net at the 22:50 and 20:40 mark, each respectively.

Lily Baxter then got into the mix connecting on her first goal of the game to cut the Tiger lead to one at 6-5, but again the Tigers went on a 5-1 run to close out the half going into the break up 12-6.

Coming out of intermission the Tigers opened up with a 6-1 run in the first 13 minutes despite a goal from Baxter at the 19:51 mark.

The Purple & Gold did fight back and put in one last run getting back to back goals from Barraco and Moretta within a minute that cut the lead to nine, and then finished off the half with goals from Moretta and Mukai but it wasn't enough as the Tigers cruised to the 20-11 victory.

The Poets return to action as they host Fort Lewis their first non-conference opponent this season, Tuesday, March 6 with game time set to begin at 6:30pm.
