FOREST GROVE, Ore. – The Whittier College women's lacrosse team wrapped up their spring break trip with a tough loss to the Boxers of Pacific University 11-8.
Whittier now drops to 4-8, while Pacific University improves to 5-4.
The Poets opened up the scoring with an unassisted goal from Lily Baxter followed by a man up goal from Dana Barraco that put Whittier in front 2-0.
But the lead would be short-lived as the Boxers went on a 4-0 run capped off by a free position goal from Kelly Stevens that put Pacific University up 4-2. But Whittier answered right back a few possessions later as Baxter found the back of the goal from Drew Kuperman that pulled the Poets within one at 4-3 going into the break.
To open up the second half Shaina Denny got into the mix as she tied the game up at 4-4 with her first goal of the game three minutes in. But that's as close as the Poets would get as the Boxers went on another 4-0 run capped off by a man up goal from Kelly Stevens that extended the Boxer lead to 8-4.
But the Purple & Gold didn't go away as Baxter answered with back to back goals of her own to pull Whittier within two. After two Boxer goals that pulled Pacific University away to a four goal lead Whittier answered again with goals from Baxter and Raquel Damti that got them within two once again, but it was Kristin Dick's final goal in the final 1:23 that sealed the victory for the Boxers.
Whittier now returns home and begins preparing for a SCIAC matchup where they will host the Tigers of Occidental College on Saturday, April 7 beginning at 1:00pm.
