LOS ANGELES, Calif. – The Whittier College women's lacrosse team dropped their second straight contest Wednesday evening to the hands of the Tigers of Occidental College 20-3 at Jack Kemp Stadium.
This marks the second straight nationally ranked opponent the Purple & Gold have faced within the past week as they fell 17-7 to No. 19 Redlands in their home opener.
Oxy who was coming off of an 11-10 loss at CMS kept the Poets scoreless throughout the first half until the 2:32 mark when Shaina Denny connected on her first goal of the game getting Whittier on the scoreboard heading into the break.
But coming out in the second, the Tigers again put on a strong defensive stance again holding Whittier scoreless until Denny added two more goals with 1:10 to play. But this would be the only offense the Poets would gather as they saw Tori Larson and Isabel Osgood-Roach tally five goals apiece for the Tigers.
Denny finished with three goals on five shots, while collecting one ground ball, and three draw controls.
For the game, Occidental controlled the possessions winning 18 draws to Whittier's seven, while picking up 21 ground balls to the Poets' 16.
Whittier returns to the field this Saturday, February 16 when they travel to Claremont, Calif. to take on the Athena's of Claremont-M-S with game time set for 11:00am.
