WHITTIER, Calif. – The Whittier College women's lacrosse team returned to SCIAC play for the second round but was unable to come away with the victory on the road falling 20-10 to the Bulldogs of the University of Redlands.
Whittier grabbed an early 3-1 lead within the first six minutes of action from Lily Baxter, Shaina Denny, and Carolyn Mukai. But Redlands answered with back to back goals from Aimee Dewan that evened the game at three. On the ensuing possession, Denny answered to give the Purple & Gold back the lead at the 14:02 mark but Redlands again answered with two straight from Jacky Craycraft giving UR their first lead of the game.
Meesha Robinson then got into the mix adding her first goal to tie the game up for the third time but the Bulldogs went on a 3-0 run that put them in front for good despite Whittier adding three goals from Robinson, Denny and Mukai that brought them within four at the half.
In the second half, the Poets offensive unit was held to just two goals with both coming in the final minute of the game from Mukai and Denny, while Redlands used an 8-0 run to put the game out of reach.
Denny finished the game with four goals on seven shots and an assist, while Mukai finished with three goals on three shots, two assists, one groundball, and eight draw controls.
Whittier continues with SCIAC play as they host Occidental this Wednesday, April 10 at 7:00pm before hosing Claremont-M-S on Saturday, April 13 at 1:00pm.
