Women's Soccer Loses at Home, Medrano '07 Scores Twice for Poets


Annette Medrano '07 scored two goals, but Whittier College lost 8-2 at home to Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges in Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play on October 18. 

Lowhren Aceves '10 made eleven saves for the Poets (0-13, 0-10 SCIAC).   Claremont (8-6-1, 6-4 SCIAC) held a 23-13 advantage in shots and a 6-1 edge in corner kicks.  Carrie Sherwood '07 assisted on both goals and took eight shots for Whittier.

The Athenas started the scoring in the sixth minute.  Medrano tied the score in the 14th minute with Sherwood getting credit for the assist.  Claremont added goals in the 23rd and 26th minutes to take a 3-1 lead at halftime.  they pulled away in the second half with four goals in seven minutes before Medrano netted scored for the second time in the 69th minute.  CMS added one more in the 82nd minute to make the final 8-2.
